REAL Controls provides engineering services for commercial building automation and control including:
A client wanted to update the human-machine interface (HMI) for their chiller control system with a modern, easy to use interface. The new HMI uses a web page style interface that is intuitive and easy to navigate. The interface incorporates the company’s logo and color scheme and ties in the HMI with the company’s marketing strategy. In addition, REAL Controls was able to integrate what had been three separate chiller control products into one application that works for the company’s complete product offering.
A client wanted to monitor conditions at his second residence and to control certain functions at that house from his primary residence. REAL Controls developed a remote control/monitoring system using a low cost Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), a personal computer, and a portable computer. The system monitors room temperatures within the house, outside air temperature and furnace operating temperatures. The building heating system and the driveway heating system are controlled by the PLC in either an automatic mode or manually by the client. The client also has the ability to control the home’s lighting system.
A Medical Clinic is housed in a two-story building that includes six different heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Patients and clinic staff often complained about the poor temperature control. Frequently, one HVAC system would operate in heating mode while another would operate in cooling mode.
REAL Controls designed, programmed and constructed a new PLC based system to consolidate all six HVAC systems. Variable air volume dampers were installed in the HVAC ducts to better regulate the temperature in each room. Two economizers were installed to use outdoor air to provide supplemental cooling and to reduce energy costs. A graphical PC based operator interface was developed which allows the clinic office manager to monitor, record and adjust temperatures in each room.
